Puffer Reds hosted a gala during Black History Month with Honoring Black Excellence from adidas, the first of it's kind in Ypsilanti. This prestigious event celebrated and spotlighted the trailblazing community organizer, Taryn M. R. Willis for her outstanding dedication to community efforts.

This event was a collaboration with adidas, who played a crucial role in making this ceremony a success. We brought together Taryn's family, peers, and community leaders to commemorate her contributions.

adidas partnered up with Puffer Reds to make our Honoring Black Excellence Ceremony a significant moment. Their support and dedication to celebrating individuals like Taryn, who are making a positive impact in their communities, is commendable. Through this collaboration, adidas and Puffer Reds demonstrate to downtown Ypsilanti and the greater Metro Detroit area, that we recognize our local superstars and aim on providing the platform for continued inspiration.
This event was attended by a diverse group of individuals, including Taryn's peers, community movers and shakers, and local business owners. The gathering of this dynamic and supportive community further emphasized the importance of coming together, celebrating achievements, and inspiring the next generations.
As part of Black History Month, our event offered a heartfelt acknowledgment of the past and present contributions of Black individuals. While celebrating changemakers like Taryn M. R. Willis, the event also reflected on the local and national impact of Black history—briefly touching on Ypsilanti’s connection to the Underground Railroad, the power of Black entrepreneurship, and the role of music and activism in shaping culture. It was a moment to honor legacy while uplifting those continuing to pave the way today.
The Puffer Reds Honoring Black Excellence Ceremony was a resounding success, drawing over 140 attendees for an evening filled with inspiration, connection, and community pride. Guests shared glowing feedback, praising the event’s thoughtful presentation and the delicious food that brought everyone together. Taryn's tennis teams also received 100+ items of adidas gear to be better equipped for their next tennis season. We hope to be able to continue these moments!
